The grand dame of American dance, Twyla Tharp could certainly hang up her ballet slippers after an award-winning choreographic career that's taken her from feature film and TV to Broadway, the American Ballet Theatre and beyond. But instead, one of our nation's true living treasures is celebrating the golden anniversary of her eponymous company with a pair of exciting new works, featuring a dozen dancers and showcasing her signature blend of classical and modern movement. The Auditorium Theatre at Chicago's Roosevelt University is one of five co-commissioners for this tour, which kicks off with Fanfare, followed by a Chicago premiere called Preludes and Fugues, set to J.S. Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier and another recent piece, the spirited, jazz-flavored Yowzie. Considered the creator of the crossover ballet, with acclaimed dances set to the work of pop icons like Billy Joel, Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan and The Beach Boys, Tharp also boasts a cache of over 100 awards, including a pair each of Emmys, Tonys, a Kennedy Center Honor and close to 20 honorary doctorates. Don't miss your chance to experience the latest from one of the world's most acclaimed artistic creators.
