The top fiddle from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, cellist David Finckel, brings along a trio of talented young violinists for a salute to their instrument, as well as veteran Paul Neubauer on the viola. This engaging review of the violin repertoire begins with a Leclair sonata from 1730, continues with compositions by Dvorak and Borodin in the 1880s and Ysaye in 1924. But they've arguably saved the best for last with a piece by the Austrian-born violinist, orchestrator and composer Fritz Kreisler, who was well-known for his expressive, dynamic style. The rising stars who'll take the Harris Theater stage in Chicago are Benjamin Beilman, Sean Lee and Danbi Um, all prize-winning violinists in their own right.
